Salvation is the Moment After Beyoncé’s “Baby Boy (feat. Sean Paul)” During a queer night at a bar near my hippo -campus turned campus merch store. Salvation is the moment I hear beats I didn’t hold the rhythm in my feet, but I solar flared around the floor. Salvation is the circle evaporating every time my father admonished my out-of-time hands with whoops and hollers from friends and people I barely know in clothes I’m still not brave enough to wear. Salvation is the moment My body breaks out of earbuds dormrooms the house when no one’s home. Salvation is the moment the dancefloor becomes the sea and I see I, too, swim.
A Few Words By Lee
Almost as long as I can remember I’ve had my body and general presence monitored and policed as a queer, neurodivergent, multiracial person, starting with my own Father. The experience of attending queer nights at a bar with an LGBTQ+ student group I worked with in my undergraduate years made me feel communal love.
